My new Name Stamp
Anybody out there ever try to make shapes with their name? A long long time ago, back when I was attending the August TaLK training in Jeju City, I was doodling in my sketchbook, and started playing around with my Korean name. I’m not sure how it happened, but somehow I ended up with something that looked like a face.
But not just any face:
돌 하루방의 얼굴이군! I had arrived at the perfect signature: something with an implicit graphic connection to Jeju, in the form of the face of a Dol Harubang statue! Eureka!
I showed my Korean coteacher, and she pursed her lips politely and gave me an approving ‘hmmm’. I was crushed. (that’s a lie: I was just as convinced as ever that I am a genius)
A few weeks later, on my birthday, she came to school and handed me this: a custom-made name stamp with the Harubang signature on it!
Best. Coteacher. Ever.
