Behind the Scenes at ‘Seolmundae Studios’
As I get deeper and deeper down the rabbit-hole of production on ‘The Legend of Seolmundae Halmang’, my home office has evolved into a proper little studio. I thought it would be cool to show it off πŸ™‚

My animation desk:

Brainstorming: How would and old lady carry a mountain?

Muji drawers from Singapore for my pens!

The ‘Seolmundae Wall’.

References from Naewatdang, an old shamanist shrine on Jeju.

Inspirations.

To ground the story visually, I started the concept art stage by drawing Seolmundae Halmang into photos I took while in Jeju.

A tiny Seolmundae maquette!

Printouts of some watercolours I painted in Jeju for reference.

Watercolour studies for Jeju.

Studies for jeju Sky and Snow … I even tried painting with eyeshadow to get ultra-soft blends.

Storyboard ideas for the scene when the villagers admit they cannot finish Seolmundae’s dress.

Seolmundae Halmang wades into Muljang Ori.

Hello,
My name is YouNa, and I have BIG interest about your work of Seolmundae Halmang, because I’m working on buiding Seolmundae Halmang’s Convention Center in Stone Park in Jeju.

How’s it going?
I’d like to know if i can see this as a moving film.

Thank you so much.
