Following a couple of social media influencers who have holed up in a sleazy motel after being cancelled, The Comics starts out as a tense, gritty thriller before taking an unusual turn into the comedic. To reinforce this aesthetic, the title design drew inspiration from grindhouse films of the 70s — as well as contemporary neo-noirs like Bad Times at the El Royale and Hotel Artemis.
