The AARC X-3 Experimental Rocketplane was a personal design project, aimed at taking a concept from thumbnail doodle to final design using the collective wisdom of my social network – soliciting comments on Facebook, Instagram and Reddit to help choose what direction the design would take.

The design was inspired a great deal by the ingenious (and often baffling) experimental aircraft designs of 1950s France, and by the Raygun Gothic aesthetic of American science fiction around the same time. In the end, I absolutely fell in love with the design, even going so far as publishing cutaway illustrations of the aircraft.
